It’s great to have the fans and interaction on Facebook, so keep it up, and I’ll do better here.

To catch you up on my events since the last blog post, I’ve been a busy Lion!

December 2009 brought cool weather (which I really enjoy) and three Christmas Parades with Lions:

• Morristown Lions Club on December 3 (view photos)
• Powell Lions Club on December 5 (view photos)
• Oak Ridge Lions Club on December 12 (view photos)

I helped the Halls Lions Club with a public relations/awareness booth at the Knoxville Center Mall (view photos).

I participated in the Lions District 12-N Convention in February and managed to get into some mischief at the Friday night social, and learn a thing or two during Saturday morning sessions (view photos).

I joined with the Halls Lions Club, West Side Leos and other Lions to walk in the 2010 Dogwood Arts Festival Parade in Knoxville (view photos).

I participated in the Walk for Sight to help raise money for the Lions District 12-N Charities’ White Cane Agencies (view photos).

I visited the Knoxville Tri-County Lions Club Car Show (view photos), but didn’t last too long in the heat and humidity (bring back winter!)

On July 3, I participated in the Powell Lions Club Independence Day Parade (view photos) and the Norris Day Celebration.

I’ve got some pretty exciting things planned for August and September, so be on the lookout!

I met a few new friends, including Bonnie Peters of the Inskip Lions Club, and Martin Skinner of the Kingston Lions Club.

I’ve been trying to find my way down to Kingston for a Lions Club project, so hopefully I’ll be able to do that soon.

In any event, it was nice to meet Lion Martin in person!

It was also great to recognize many faces from some of the other events I’ve attended.

There aren’t too many strangers among Lions!

Although I have been to LVBI a couple times now, this is the first time I had an opportunity to wander into the retail show room.

The blind and visually impaired employees at LVBI make, among other things, mattresses.

The bright orange UT headboard stood out from across the room, and it wasn’t long before I was resting a bit

Lion Paws under the Day with the Lions Sign

The Day with the Lions and Walk for Sight event is a major fundraiser the the Lions of East Tennessee. From what I’ve learned, all the Lions clubs in our district support nine agencies.

Start of Walk for Sight

I have so many terrific pictures from the Day with the Lions, it was difficult to select just a few to share with you here. Please check out my photo album.

The Walk for Sight began shortly after 10:00 a.m., and I had the privilege of being right at the front with two other mascots: Chilly from the Knoxville Ice Bears and Andy the Armadillo from Texas Roadhouse. We weren’t the fastest walkers, and occasionally got side-tracked to visit with people but it was a neat way to kick off the important Walk for Sight!

Let’s see, some other fun things that happened (check out the albums for photos of these):

* Met several Fountain City Lions members who helped with the Car Show and booth for refreshments

* Met several Halls Lions members who had a craft booth and a face painting booth, and the soon-to-be “first couple” of District 12-N (DG-Elect Steve Lewis and Lion Sylvia)

* Met several Future Leader Dogs and two Search & Rescue dogs

* Met the University of Tennessee Volunteers “real” mascot, Smoky the Blue Tick Hound

* Met the Tennessee Smokies mascots, Slugger and Diamond

* Participated in the Cake Walk – and just missed winning some goodies by ONE seat!

* Tried to have my eye examined at the booth by the Tellico Village Lions

* Played a piano – not that well, mind you, but played nonetheless!

* Met the Anderson County High School Leos and Advisor who volunteered to help with the Cake Walk

* Made an attempt to accessorize my gold Lions Vest. . . with a pink purse?

* Passed out awards to the winning Car Show entries

* I was even a little ornery in attempting to sneak a snack from someone’s cooler, but was busted by a photographer!

As you can see, it was a busy, fun-filled day!

Lion Paws with DG-Elect Steve Lewis and DG Jim McFarland

I met a lot of new friends at the Officer Training held in Powell! Attached are a few photos that I’ve received so far. . .

First, I had an opportunity to meet our current District Governor (DG), Jim McFarland and our incoming leaders. . . DG-Elect Steve Lewis and 1st Vice DG-Elect Bill McDonald.

I also met International Director Bill Watkins from the Loudon Lions Club.

His term is almost over, and he was training our District’s incoming Club Presidents.

I met his wife Lion Nora, too, but she was on the other side of the camera taking pictures!

And, I got to meet Lions John Black and Diane Wilkerson.

I think they are from the Powell Lions Club and hopefully, I’ll get a chance to visit with them again!

I remember hearing about the Powell Lions 4th of July Parade. . . it sounds like a lot of fun!

I met lots of other people, too.  It’s kinda tough remembering everyone’s name but I suspect it will get easier, especially having the photos as a reminder
