Powell Lions Parade Registration

The day began with the Powell 4th of July parade, sponsored by the Powell Lions Club.

I met several new Lions friends at the sign-in booth. . . they also had shade – which was in limited supply in the parking lot staging area!

The Powell Lions were so busy working the parade, they didn’t have a float/entry, however, they lined me up toward the front of the parade to represent the Lions.

Getting Ready to Begin the Parade

A BIG “THANK YOU” to Mary Lou Crail for letting us borrow her red convertible, and to PDGs Dave and Clare Crawford, for chauffeuring and making sure I had plenty of cool drinks!

Before the parade, I met several other people who were also lining up to participate – several community leaders and groups, a kangaroo, a not-so-friendly dog, and “Deputy Beaver”.

A Ticket for 'Having Too Much Fun'?!?

He actually wrote me a ticket for having too much fun! Can you believe it? I was definitely guilty as charged!

If I wasn’t so positive that it is GREAT to be a Lion, I might start having an identity crisis.

Along the parade, I had children call me a Lion, a Tiger (again), and a Bear (really, a bear?).

Add to that the Crocodile and Kangaroo that were part of the festivities, and it was quite a zoo!

Playtime After the Parade

After the parade, we went to the picnic area sponsored by the Powell Business and Professional Association.

There were children’s games and food. Boy, the hot dogs and hamburgers looked yummy, but I didn’t want to chance getting ketchup or mustard in my fur.

I met Laura Bailey, who is another Powell Lions Club member. She tried her best to get me to reveal my identity, but I held strong

Someone mentioned I should use a phone booth like Superman. Ha! But seriously, have you tried to find a pay phone these days?

Looking for Business at the Secret City Festival

It was hot, hot, hot at the Secret City Festival! I was able to find the Oak Ridge Lions booth where I met Lions Joe Henderson and Jim Bailey selling mops, brooms, light-bulbs, and pecans.

I’m not much use in handling cash or lots of products with my paws, so the best I could do was help generate interest to the booth.

My sign was handy as I walked through the festival with Lion Joe.

However, I really need free paws for waving, high fives, and hugs, so Lion Joe ended up being the walking billboard for the booth while I had most of the fun!

Lion Joe was also able to take some terrific photos that he shared with me.

A Lion Hunting

A nearby vendor had these cool hand-made guns and a shooting range right there at his booth! He offered to give me a running head start before hunting me; but what’s more interesting: going Lion hunting or a Lion going hunting?

Ha! Despite my limited visibility, I was still able to hit the target for 2 of 4 shots! All the big game hunters better look out for Lions’ Revenge!

Lions may be the “King of the Jungle” but the bald eagle is one of the most majestic creatures I’ve ever seen. I was definitely in awe, and Lion Joe captured the beauty of this bird magnificently!

I’m sure there will be even more people mingling around the festival on Saturday, which is a great opportunity to raise awareness about Lionism.

But I’ve got other plans tomorrow. . . so much to do! I don’t know how many sales the Oak Ridge Lions Club was able to make, but definitely another fun outing for me!
