Karns Lions Club Golf Tournament on 7/11/09
Oops! Sorry for not posting sooner. . . had the draft done and forgot to “publish”.
On Saturday, July 11, I visited the Karns Lions Club, who was hosting their 21st annual golf tournament.
It was held at Three Ridges Golf Course, and I have never been to this part of Knoxville before, so just getting there was an adventure!
Lion Denise Keith is the club’s new President for the year, and she was kind enough to take me around and introduce me to many of the Lions who were there.
I arrived a little over an hour before tee time, and the registration table stayed pretty busy.
So, I snuck behind the table to see what the Lions were up to, but no poses!
One of the Lions I met was Joe Dailey, who was “doing Dandy”.
Later, Lion Denise would tell me that’s his signature phrase.
As I went to put my arm on his shoulder for the photo, I accidentally knocked his ball cap off his head
My poor peripheral vision will cause problems like that!
Part of the fundraising, was selling $1 per putt. If you made a hole-in-one on the designated putting green hole, you would win a door prize.
Well, I knew I wouldn’t be doing any serious golfing, and practicing on the driving range would have been way too dramatic.
But, putting I thought I could handle!
So I purchased five putting chances.
The peripheral vision came into play again, as I would look down at the ball, then need to take at least one hand off the club to move my head to see where the hole was.
The first couple putts were a bit off, but I started to get closer.
On the fifth putt, the ball came within a whisker – stopping less than 2 inches directly in front of the hole!
After putting, I found a great temptation. . . the golf cart!
I didn’t have time to go for a ride before the tournament kicked off.
But I DID sneak behind the wheel. Maybe next time I’ll drive!
Finally, one of the event’s sponsors was present to make a donation to the Karns Lions Club.
The golf tournament had a a lot of terrific support from the community through sponsorships.
In the picture, a representative from Sam’s Club is presenting a $1,000 donation to Monica Dailey and Gabe Bolas, the golf tournament project chair.
I don’t have that many photos, so I included them all in this entry. However, if you would like a better resolution photo, go to the photo album.
Keeping Roaring!
